| Fakenham Local History Society was formed in 1952 to foster an interest in and to help preserve the town's history. | |
| Meetings are held in the Methodist Schoolroom on the second Monday of the month, September to May, with invited speakers on local interests. Outings are held in June/July. | |
| Subscriptions are kept very low and are determined at the AGM. | |

The Old Picture Show is an annual event staged by the Society, usually in October. The Society supports the Museum of Gas and Local History with local history displays in two of the rooms in the Museum. |
